Biography:
Suzanne Nebeker, NP was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a child, Suzanne, along with her parents and two younger sisters, had the opportunity to live throughout the Intermountain West as a result of her father’s job with the Forest Service. She began college at the age of sixteen, attending Eastern Montana College for a short time. In 1978, she received her undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in Interpersonal Communications. As an associate professor for both BYU and MSU, Suzanne taught communications in addition to attending college. With the initial intention of becoming an attorney, Suzanne, whose family has a long line of physicians and healthcare providers, enrolled into the Pre-Masters Law Program at BYU, but soon found that she was drawn to nursing. She earned her Registered Nursing Degree from Montana State University in 1982 and in 1984 returned to Brigham Young University to obtain her Masters of Nursing Science. Suzanne continued her training at Graceland College and received a Post Masters Certificate in Nursing.
In 1999, Suzanne, along with her family, moved to Salmon, ID to accept a Nurse Practitioner position at Steele Memorial Medical Center (SMMC). In addition to primary care, Suzanne specializes in Forensic Nursing and Diabetes Care, and has extensive experience in Emergency and Intensive Care Medicine. She volunteers as a Regional Faculty Member for the American Heart Association and is currently a Board Member for the Lemhi County Mahoney House & Family Safety Center. She is also a founding member and the medical representative for the Lemhi County Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Team.
Suzanne believes in a holistic approach to healing, focusing on every dimension of a person’s physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. She realizes that her patients are more than their disease, and focuses on helping them to balance their life, family, and environment. Her favorite part of working at Steele Memorial Medical Center is making a positive difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve better health. She states “SMMC is a forward thinking organization that fosters a positive patient centered environment while upholding its high standards and maintaining its rural community appeal.” Suzanne has many favorite memories of working at SMMC and attributes all of them to the friendships and relationships she has made with the community. She is honored to be a part of her patient’s lives from the beginning of life to the end.
Outside of work, Suzanne enjoys living in the country and spending time with family. She has been blessed with two children and three wonderful grandchildren. She appreciates Salmon’s small town atmosphere and enjoys the rural aspect of Lemhi County including the mountains and wide open spaces it provides. She has many interests including her love for horses. On her country property, Suzanne raises, trains, and shows Missouri Fox Trotters. She has trained multiple world champion horses in many disciplines and currently cares for twenty-five horses. During her free time, Suzanne frequently judges horse shows both at a national and international level. She is a board member for the Utah Fox Trotting Horse Association and serves on the Judge's Committee and the Show Committee for the National Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association. She is a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, participating with White Water Therapeutic Recreational Riding Association, a local organization who provides equine assisted activities and therapy (EAAT) and therapeutic riding classes. Other leisure time activities Suzanne enjoys with her family include: being outdoors, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, mountain biking, mountain climbing, hunting, gardening, and practicing yoga, a discipline she has been instructing since 2003.
