Biography:
Adam Deutchman, MD has been a long time resident of Lemhi County. He has practiced medicine for 19 years and 9 of those years have been right here in Lemhi. Dr. Deutchman grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA in a home with four children. His family later moved to Colorado where he attended Colorado College receiving his Undergraduate Degree in Arts and Anthropology. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Science Center School of Medicine. He served a 5 year internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Kansas, Kansas City, Kansas. He later served a partial fellowship in Cardio and Thoracic surgery. After his internship, he made the moved to Denver, CO as a General and Trauma surgeon and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery to the University of Colorado. Dr. Deutchman was then presented the opportunity to practice in Cape Girardeau, MO as a General Vascular, Thoracic and Trauma Surgeon. He became the Director of a Trauma Program at St. Francis Medical Center and Chairman of Surgery at South East Missouri Hospital.
After many years of practicing medicine, Dr. Deutchman made the decision to raise his children among family. His wife’s family has been residents of the Lemhi County area since the 1920’s. Dr. Deutchman and family decided that Salmon, ID would be a wonderful place to raise their children and eventually retire in this beautiful valley.
Dr. Deutchman and family take every opportunity to appreciate what Lemhi County has to offer, they enjoy downhill skiing, skate skiing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, cross fit, and various river activities. They raise sheep for diary and cheese. He also enjoys charcuterie- preparation of cured meats, painting in various forms including: oils, water color, pen and ink, etchings, and carving, he also holds a black belt in three types of martial arts. One interesting fact about Dr. Deutchman is that he treated a number of children from the Columbine Shootings in Columbine, CO as a Trauma Surgeon and later testified in Washington, DC regarding the issue.
Adam Deutchman, MD is a full time general surgeon at the Steele Memorial Medical Center and also practices one weekend a month at St. Patrick’s Hospital as an Acute Care and Trauma Surgeon to maintain his skills as an Acute Care and Trauma Surgeon. For 6 years, he served on the Idaho Emergency Medical Services Physicians Commission for the EMS Bureau representing the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. Serves as a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and serves as a governor for that organization for the state of Idaho. He is an advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor and course director. He also conducts hospital site surveys for Trauma for the State of Oregon. He also participates in outside surgical peer reviews. A member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, a member of the Southwestern Surgical Congress and the Idaho Medical Society.
Adam always knew that he wanted to be a physician but it wasn’t until he was exposed to surgery in med school that he decided to practice general surgery. He enjoys the variety and challenge of being a surgeon. Working at SMMC has allowed him to get to know his coworkers and patients. He enjoys watching SMMC grow professionally, expand its services offered and maintain a standard of excellence.
Dr. Deutchman’s message to the community is that prevention is the key to good health and longevity and that everything you do now affects your health in the future.
